The former Le Boisé golf course in Terrebonne has been sold.
After more than a decade of discussions and negotiations, the City of Terrebonne has finally succeeded in purchasing the former Le Boisé golf course for $27 million.
This ambitious project aims to transform the site into a natural park, providing a 71-hectare green space in the heart of the city.
This acquisition marks a historic milestone for Terrebonne and brings to an end a long legal saga
The City of Terrebonne announced the acquisition of the former Le Boisé golf club for $27 million.
This project, which required years of negotiations, will protect 71 hectares of land, almost double the size of La Fontaine Park in Montreal.
Terrebonne Mayor Mathieu Traversy called this acquisition a "major step forward" for the city's residents.
The purchase of this land ends a legal saga that has lasted more than a decade.
In November 2022, the City offered $11 million to the site's owner, Les Immeubles des Moulins Inc., who rejected the offer, believing the land was worth more than $29 million.
A $98 million lawsuit was then filed against Terrebonne and the Montreal Metropolitan Community (MMC), accused of attempted disguised expropriation.
The final $27 million agreement represents a compromise, with part of the funding coming from the Green and Blue Infrastructure program, funded by the CMM and the provincial government.
The municipality of Terrebonne will contribute $15 million.
The project to transform the site into a natural park will include environmentally friendly features, such as a covered and refrigerated skating rink and trails.
This initiative is part of a broader trend toward protecting golf courses in the Greater Montreal area, where several other sites are also the subject of debate over their future.
This acquisition is a victory for the citizens of Terrebonne, who will benefit from a new green space in the heart of their city, while preserving the environment and providing quality recreational facilities.
