Street Closures Guidel for Summer 2026

This summer, several streets in Montreal will be closed to vehicular traffic to become pedestrian zones.
This initiative aims to promote walking, terraces, public art, and local events.

Summer 2026 marks the return of the Montreal tradition of transforming certain bustling streets into pedestrian zones.


Starting this May, several streets across the city will be closed to cars for the season, providing more space for pedestrians, terraces, public art, and local events.


While this change is welcomed by many, drivers will need to plan their routes accordingly, especially with several main arteries affected.


Here is an overview of the streets that will become pedestrian zones this summer, according to the city:

  1. Place D'Youville & Place Royale: Closed from June 3 to September 1.

  2. Place Jacques-Cartier: Between Notre-Dame Street and De la Commune Street, from April 15 to October 29, 2026.

  3. Avenue du Musée (between Sherbrooke West and Dr. Penfield): Closed from June 5 to October 13.

  4. Saint-Denis Street & Émery Street (Saint-Denis: Sherbrooke East to Sainte-Catherine East; Émery: between Saint-Denis and Sanguinet): Pedestrian zone closed for street repairs and works

  5. Sainte-Catherine Street East (The Village, between Saint-Hubert and Papineau): Closed from May 15 to October 12.

  6. Bernard Avenue (between Wiseman and Bloomfield): Closed from May 23 to September 20.

  7. Duluth Avenue East (between Saint-Laurent and Saint-Hubert): Closed from June 18 to October 12.

  8. Mont-Royal Avenue:

    • From Saint-Laurent to Saint-Denis: May 28 to October 12.

    • From Saint-Denis to De Lorimier: May 28 to September 2.

  9. Place De Castelnau (between De Gaspé and Saint-Denis): Pedestrian zone closed for street repairs and works

  10. Wellington Street (between Régina and 6th Avenue): Closed from June 15 to September 14.

  11. Promenade Ontario (between Pie-IX and Darling): Closed from June 18 to September 14.

  12. Saint-Paul Street East (between Bonsecours Market and Saint-Laurent): Already pedestrian-only for the season until October 29.

  13. Sainte-Catherine Street West (in the Quartier des spectacles, between De Bleury and Saint-, Laurent): Year-round.

  14. Villeray Street   new for 2026 , between De Gaspé, Henri-Julien, and Berri): From June 18 to August 17.


The city notes that most closures will take effect a few days before the official start dates and may remain in place briefly afterward to allow for the setup and dismantling of installations.
