The borough of Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie has inaugurated Place Boyer, a public space transformed from a former municipal parking lot.
This innovative project combines greening, sustainable rainwater management, and cultural programming, breathing new ecological and social life into the heart of La Petite-Patrie.
On June 26, 2025, the City of Montreal officially inaugurated Place Boyer, a flagship urban transformation project located at the corner of Beaubien East and Boyer streets.
This new public space, developed on a former municipal parking lot, embodies a sustainable and inclusive vision of urban planning.
With over 1,450 plants and around twenty trees and shrubs, Place Boyer actively contributes to biodiversity and the greening of a previously paved area.
Its rain garden can collect up to 81.5 m³ of water — the equivalent of more than 530 bathtubs — effectively managing runoff from the square, Boyer Street, and the adjacent alley.
A permeable grate platform also facilitates water infiltration into an underground retention basin.
But Place Boyer is more than just an ecological space.
It is also a place for gathering and culture.
A vibrant mural by the organization MU, distinctive urban furniture, misting stations, ambient lighting, and a kiosk housed in a container enrich the visitor experience.
In partnership with LatinArte, free activities and an affordable menu at the kiosk will animate the space throughout the summer.
“As we breathe new life into a former municipal parking lot, we are allowing nature to reclaim its place — for the benefit of the entire community and future generations,” said borough mayor François Limoges.
Place Boyer stands as a model of climate resilience and urban revitalization, transforming a utilitarian space into a true green lung and vibrant community hub for La Petite-Patrie.
