The Verdun borough is transforming the plaza at West-Vancouver Park, located on Nuns’ Island, into a more welcoming, inclusive, and accessible space.
Thanks to Montréal’s participatory budget, the project aims to enhance facilities, improve safety, and foster community life
In 2025, West-Vancouver Park, a natural gem on Nuns’ Island—will undergo a long-awaited transformation.
The Verdun borough is redesigning the park’s central plaza, near the Darwin Bridge, to offer residents a modern, safe, and inviting gathering place.
This initiative is part of Montréal’s participatory budget, a democratic process that allows citizens to decide how a portion of the city’s budget is spent.
The addition of micro-parks and micro-plazas in Verdun was one of the winning projects in the program’s second edition.
Planned improvements include:
Enhanced lighting to increase safety in the evening;
New urban furniture;
Picnic and social areas;
Upgrades to the bike path running through the park.
A public survey was conducted from January 6 to 27, 2025, to gather residents’ needs and ideas.
This citizen consultation helped guide the project’s direction, with a focus on the expectations of youth and families.
This redevelopment promises to breathe new life into a central neighborhood space, encouraging social interaction, relaxation, and access to nature
