The City of Montreal and the borough of Lachine have officially launched the construction of Quai 34, a flagship project born from the city’s first participatory budget.
Located in Saint-Louis Park, this new public space was designed by and for the community, with the goal of transforming a paved site into a place for relaxation, leisure, and nature.
Lachine took a major step toward the future with the groundbreaking of Quai 34—a welcoming, inclusive, and nature-inspired public space.
This project, winner of Montreal’s first participatory budget (2020–2021), is the result of an exemplary citizen-led initiative.
Residents proposed, voted on, and shaped a shared vision to revitalize this iconic site along the shores of Lake Saint-Louis.
The concept, developed by the landscape architecture firm VLAN Paysages, includes rest areas, green islands, wave-inspired urban furniture, and facilities for fishing and marine observation.
Fish-themed ground murals will enhance the educational and sensory experience for visitors.
Funded with $3.7 million by the City of Montreal, the construction contract was awarded to EXCAVATION E.S.M. INC. following a public call for tenders.
This project perfectly illustrates the power of citizen participation and the City’s commitment to creating sustainable, accessible living environments rooted in their natural and cultural heritage.
