The redevelopment project of the Novitiate of the Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate Conception, located in the Pont-Viau district of Laval, has received major support through the Regions and Rurality Fund (FRR).
Led by the Collectif autour d’une tasse, this initiative aims to transform this heritage site into a human-scale village core that promotes social diversity, inclusion, and sustainability.
Project Overview
In a remarkable effort of urban revitalization and social cohesion, the Collectif autour d’une tasse has received significant backing for its ambitious plan to transform the Novitiate of the Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate Conception.
The project is spearheaded by Collectif autour d’une tasse, a non-profit organization (NPO) founded in 2023 following a citizen mobilization that began in 2019.
It brings together social economy enterprises and community organizations from Laval.
Their goal: to collectively acquire the heritage building of the novitiate and create a community-oriented and inclusive living space.
The site, located at 100 Place Juge-Desnoyers, will include:
Social and affordable housing units
Shared spaces for collective members
Community services open to the public
A redevelopment of the SMIC congregation’s generalate
Located in the Pont-Viau district, this emblematic site is set to become a true village hub where heritage, nature, and community converge.
Thanks to a grant awarded under the “Support for Regional Outreach” component of the FRR, the collective will be able to develop a structured business plan to bring its vision to life.
The goal is to create an intergenerational, inclusive, and eco-friendly living environment that meets the needs of Laval residents while honoring the site’s historical significance.
This project is part of a broader set of initiatives supported by the Government of Quebec and the City of Laval to boost the region’s socioeconomic development.
It reflects a collective desire to build sustainable living environments rooted in their territory and meaningful for future generations.
