The Plateau-Mont-Royal borough has opened a temporary dog park in Mile End, located on the site of the De Gaspé skating rink.
A new dog park has been set up on the site of the De Gaspé skating rink, at the corner of De Gaspé Avenue and Bernard East Street, on the lot adjacent to the Champ des Possibles.
This pilot project, born from a citizen initiative, aims to provide a safe and accessible space for dogs and their owners, while respecting the peace of the neighborhood.
Implemented by the Plateau-Mont-Royal borough, it responds to strong public demand, including a petition that gathered over 900 signatures.
The park is open daily from 6 a.m. to midnight, from spring to fall.It is fully fenced and includes an entry enclosure (airlock) to ensure user safety. In winter, the site reverts to a skating rink, allowing for versatile use of the space.
The chosen location is set at a distance from residences, helping to limit noise impact for nearby residents.
The rink boards will remain in place year-round, and a closed entry enclosure (airlock) will be added to ensure user safety and facilitate entry and exit from the area.
According to a document on wikiResidence.ca (Theme – Pets), Montreal has more than 63 dog parks spread across its 19 boroughs.
These spaces allow dogs to run freely, provided certain rules are followed: mandatory dog tags, a leash no longer than 1.8 meters outside the parks, and waste pickup.
The Mile End park is part of this city-wide initiative, despite the urban constraints often faced by dog owners.
