The City of Montreal announced an ambitious redevelopment project for Camillien-Houde Road and Remembrance Road, which lead to the summit of Mount Royal.
This project aims to transform these roads into greener and safer spaces, primarily accessible to pedestrians and cyclists, while maintaining access for emergency vehicles.
Here is an update regarding the recent decisions regarding Camillien-Houde Road and Remembrance Road, two important arteries leading to the summit of Mount Royal.
The City of Montreal has unveiled a major redevelopment project that will transform these roads into greener and safer spaces.
Context and objectives
The main access to the summit of Mount Royal, Camillien-Houde Road, will be closed to vehicles in 2027, as confirmed by Mayor Valérie Plante.
The Remembrance pathway will then become the only access route for cars and buses of the Société de transport de Montréal (STM).
This redevelopment project aims to create a large promenade for pedestrians with a parallel and separate path for cyclists, while allowing emergency vehicles to pass.
Main features of the redevelopment
Transformation into green space: Camillien-Houde Road will be converted into a pedestrian and cycling promenade, with extensive greening of the thoroughfare.
Limited access for vehicles: Automobiles will have to use Remembrance Road to access the summit of Mount Royal, thereby reducing traffic and nuisances on Camillien-Houde Road.
Increased safety: The project emphasizes the safety of pedestrians and cyclists, in response to ecological and safety concerns raised by citizens.
Expected impact.
This redesign aims to improve the quality of life for Montreal residents by providing a greener and safer space for outdoor activities.
It also addresses current climate challenges by reducing car traffic and promoting more sustainable modes of transportation.
We invite you to follow the progress of this project and to participate in public consultations to share your ideas and concerns.
