Like me, are you looking for super interesting places? Here's one: The Ecomuseum Zoo, the one and only outdoor zoo on the island of Montreal.
Discover their conservation initiatives, educational programs, and unique experiences the zoo offers its visitors. Immerse yourself in the fascinating world of Quebec's wildlife.
Located in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, on the western tip of the Island of Montreal, the Ecomuseum Zoo is a unique institution, entirely dedicated to Quebec animal species.
Unique: It is the only outdoor zoo on the Island of Montreal where you can discover exclusively Quebec species. Mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and fish from our region eagerly await your visit, in an institution dedicated to their well-being.
These animals each have a unique story. During your visit, you will meet residents who have been orphaned, rehabilitated, or born under professional human care.
Each living area reflects the natural environment of these animals to ensure their comfort and well-being. Take the time to seek them out and observe them during your visit: you will be even more fascinated!
Mission and Commitments:
The Ecomuseum Zoo is a non-profit organization whose mission revolves around three fundamental pillars: education, wildlife conservation, and animal welfare.
The zoo is accredited by CAZA (Canada's Accredited Zoos and Aquariums), an organization that ensures excellence in animal care, management, education, and conservation at accredited Canadian zoological institutions.
Educational Programs
The Ecomuseum Zoo reaches more than 35,000 children each year through its educational programs, encouraging environmental protection. Here are some of the activities offered:
• Mini-Explorers: Want to meet the animals with your groups of toddlers? The "Mini-Explorers" activity is designed so that daycare, childcare, and kindergarten groups can visit the zoo independently, at their own pace.
• Guided Tour: To dive into the heart of Quebec's wildlife and discover everything animals have to teach us, a guided tour of the zoo is the best option! Our dynamic and experienced guides will accompany you throughout your visit.
• Animal's lunches: This activity is led by a zoologist in a private room and includes:
A special, dynamic presentation on chosen species.
The preparation of the animal's lunch and the creation of enrichment activities by the participants - let's roll up our sleeves! The chance for participants to feed the animal from the observation platforms!
News and Initiatives
The Ecomuseum Zoo continues to innovate and commit to the conservation of local wildlife.
For example, a 10-year-old bobcat named Aria recently moved into her new living area at the zoo, which is one of the zoo's largest.
At its regular meeting on April 14, 2025, the City of Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue approved a zoo expansion project to expand the visitor area as well as the area not accessible to the public.
We invite you to enjoy this area. Please feel free to suggest others.
