The segment of the Réseau express métropolitain (REM) serving Deux-Montagnes is finally accessible to the public since November 17, 2025.

It is now possible to access three new REM stations via the STM metro network. Gare Centrale station is connected to Bonaventure station on the Orange line. The REM's McGill station is linked to the station of the same name on the Green line, and the same applies to the REM's Édouard-Montpetit station and the Blue line.

Dynamic testing began on April 5, 2025, between the Du Ruisseau and Gare Centrale stations on the Deux-Montagnes branch.

Essentially, the same schedule will be offered once the REM is in service. This stage follows the first train car passages last March.

The start of the tests was carried out according to the following steps:

  • Circulation of REM cars at low speed between April 5 and 8;

  • Finalization of work on the tracks, cars were not circulating during this period;

Operators were on board at the beginning, then, once all safety standards were met, the cars were piloted in automatic mode from the control station, as planned when the REM was commissioned.

The objective achieved is to reproduce the in-service conditions of the REM, with the same frequency and a speed that can reach up to $100 \text{ km/h}$ depending on the sector.

5 Years Without a Train

The commissioning of the second segment should delight the residents of Deux-Montagnes, whose commutes have been complicated since the 2020 closure of the commuter train line that served Deux-Montagnes and Bois-Franc.

Service was interrupted on the exo6 Deux-Montagnes line to make way for the REM construction.

CQPD Infra estimates that the new REM in Deux-Montagnes will be able to transport 42,000 people during peak hour. The capacity of the former train line for the same time of day was 17,000 people.

14 New Stations

The new segment adds 14 stations to the REM network, bringing the number of operational stations to 19.

The automated light rail network will then be 50 kilometers long. The 4 stations that will make up the branch towards Anse-à-l'Orme, in the West Island, will be inaugurated in Spring 2026.

Commissioning

The next commissioning stages of the REM network include the opening of the following segments:

  • Phase 3: West Island Segments planned for Spring 2026.

  • Phase 3: Airport Segment.

The 2 stations heading towards Montréal-Trudeau Airport are planned for 2027. Ultimately, the REM will have 26 stations in total.

3 Metro Access Points

It is possible to access three new REM stations via the STM metro network.

Gare Centrale station will be connected to Bonaventure station on the Orange line. The REM's McGill station will be linked to the station of the same name on the Green line, and the same applies to the REM's Édouard-Montpetit station and the Blue line.

19.5 Hours of Service

The REM will run for 19.5 hours, from 5:30 AM to 1:00 AM, including weekends and public holidays.

Only the segment between Côte-de-Liesse and Deux-Montagnes will close earlier, at 9:30 PM, to allow for testing in preparation for the opening of the branch towards Anse-à-l'Orme.

2.5 Minutes

Between Gare Centrale and Bois-Franc, an REM train car is supposed to pass every two and a half minutes during peak hours and every five minutes during off-peak hours.

However, the passages will be less frequent on the segment between Bois-Franc and Deux-Montagnes, namely every 5 minutes during peak hours and every 15 minutes during off-peak hours.

$3.75 +

Like the rest of the ARTM network, the REM ticket cost depends on the zones traveled.

  • If you stay within Zone A (Montreal), a single fare costs $3.75 and a round-trip, $7.

  • If you leave Zone A and go to Zone B (Longueuil and Laval), which includes the Panama, Du Quartier, Brossard, Île-Bigras, and Saint-Dorothée stations, a single fare costs $5 and a round-trip, $9.75.

  • If you want to travel in Zones A, B, and C (north and south crowns), which includes the Grand-Moulin and Deux-Montagnes stations, a single fare costs $7 and a round-trip, $13.50.
