The Plateau-Mont-Royal borough will have a new deposit point for Consignation in a former Bank of Montreal location, located at 2001, Mont-Royal E Avenue.
The borough council approved this project during a recent meeting.
Since March 1st, residents of the Plateau can reclaim the deposit on plastic beverage containers from 100ml to 2L.
As this represents a significant increase in the number of containers to manage, the deposit system is being transformed.
This reform project of the deposit system has been implemented by Quebec and is managed by the Quebec Association for the Recovery of Beverage Containers (AQRCB).
Established as part of the extended producer responsibility, it requires companies to take responsibility for managing their products at the end of their life.
The addition of plastic containers is the second step of this reform, following the inclusion of all aluminum beverage cans into the system in November 2023.
