The Greater Southwest Ecological Corridor is an innovative project aimed at connecting important biodiversity areas between LaSalle and the Southwest of Montreal.
This project, winner of the first edition of the City of Montreal's participatory budget, aims to protect nature in the city while providing favorable conditions for the movement and survival of insects and birds in urban environments.
The City of Montreal recently launched an ambitious project called the Greater Southwest Ecological Corridor.
This project aims to connect important biodiversity areas between the boroughs of LaSalle and Le Sud-Ouest, in order to protect nature in urban environments.
Winner of the City's first participatory budget, this project has a total budget of $2.7 million.
The project is 80% complete in the Sud-Ouest Borough.
A network of ecocorridors for biodiversity
The Greater Southwest Ecological Corridor will create a network of ecocorridors connecting various existing biodiversity areas.
This network will provide favorable conditions for the movement and survival of insects and birds in urban environments.
In addition to protecting local flora and fauna, this project aims to improve public access to nature in the city.
Concrete Sustainable Environmental Initiatives
The project includes the development of green alleys and the installation of new islands of trees, shrubs, and pollinator gardens.
These initiatives will help improve air quality and reduce urban heat islands.
In addition, they will provide residents with additional green spaces to relax and reconnect with nature.
A Community-Supported Project
The Greater Southwest Ecological Corridor received broad community support during the participatory budget process.
Residents of LaSalle and the Southwest expressed their desire for more green spaces and biodiversity in their neighborhood.
This project responds to this demand by creating a healthier and more pleasant environment for all.
The Greater Southwest Ecological Corridor project represents a significant step forward in protecting biodiversity in urban areas.
By connecting biodiversity areas and creating new green spaces, this project contributes to nature preservation while improving residents' quality of life.
Collaboration between the various boroughs and active community participation were essential to ensure the success of this ambitious initiative.
