Starting May 12, work will begin to repair and modernize the 13.4-km bike path, which connects the cities of Sainte-Catherine and Saint-Lambert, passing through Delson, Candiac, La Prairie, and Brossard.
The first phase will take place between May 12 and August 15 and will focus on the section between l'Estacade and Saint-Lambert.
This portion of the Promenade Fluviale is currently covered in stone dust. It will receive a new foundation and asphalt paving.
The second phase will follow between mid-August and early December, when the approximately ten-kilometer section between l'Estacade and the city of Sainte-Catherine will be completely resurfaced.
The Estacade cycle path will remain accessible to cyclists throughout the construction period, but the sections of the Promenade Fluviale undergoing repairs and modernization will be closed to the public.
Thus, the section between Estacade and Saint-Lambert will be inaccessible between May 12 and August 15.
The work will then shift to the section between Estacade and Sainte-Catherine, which will also be closed, between August 15 and the beginning of December.
Cyclists will be able to continue using the link between Saint-Lambert and Parc Jean-Drapeau during the construction, with the exception of the Formula 1 Grand Prix period, when Notre-Dame Island will be closed to the public from June 7 to 20, 2025.
The La Riveraine bike path, which runs along the St. Lawrence River, will allow cyclists to travel between Boucherville and Sainte-Catherine and connect the South Shore and Montreal via the Samuel de Champlain and Jacques-Cartier bridges or the Estacade bike path.
Note that access to the RécréoParc and the nautical area via the Côte-Sainte-Catherine lock will be maintained throughout the summer season.
The modernized River Promenade will also be able to host some events of the International Cycling Union (UCI) Road World Championships, which will be held in Montreal in September 2026.
These Championships will be the largest event the city has seen since the 1976 Olympic Games.
