The site of the former Monastery of the Resurrection, located at 5750 Rosemont Boulevard in Montreal, recently underwent a redevelopment project.
This project aims to transform the former Franciscan monastery into a residential complex comprising nearly 900 units, including several social and community housing units.
The project also includes the preservation of part of the wooded area to expand the adjacent Bois-des-Pères park and the enhancement of the cloister.

The historic site of the former Monastery of the Resurrection, once occupied by the Franciscans, is being transformed into a modern residential complex.

Located at 5750 Rosemont Boulevard, this project is being led by NÓS Architects and the developer Prével.

The project calls for the construction of buildings ranging from 6 to 23 stories, offering nearly 900 residential units, a significant proportion of which will be dedicated to social and community housing.

Here is what the developer Groupe Prével is proposing:

• The construction of approximately 900 residential units, including private, family, affordable, and social housing. Between 100 and 150 units would be designated for social housing;

• Demolition of the chapel and the former infirmary;

• Transfer of the wooded portion to the City for the expansion of the Bois-des-Pères;

• Transformation of the convent and its garden to accommodate socio-community uses;

 • The possibility of including certain commercial uses to meet local needs.

Heritage Conservation and Enhancement

One aspect of this project is the conservation and enhancement of the monastery cloister. The cloister will be preserved and integrated into the new development, thus maintaining a connection to the site's history.

In addition, part of the surrounding wooded area will be transferred to the City of Montreal to expand Bois-des-Pères Park, providing additional green space.

Public Consultation

The project was the subject of a public consultation organized by the Office de consultation publique de Montréal (OCPM) from December 2024 to March 2025.

The OCPM's report, published in April 2025, emphasizes the importance of heritage conservation and the integration of affordable housing into the project.

The report contains 12 recommendations, including the adoption of the two draft bylaws.

A Project for the Future

The redevelopment of the former Monastery of the Resurrection represents a unique opportunity to revitalize a historic site while addressing Montreal's current housing needs.

By combining heritage conservation, the creation of affordable housing, and the expansion of green spaces, this project promises to become a model of sustainable and inclusive urban development.
