The Sarahmée and her guests show will be held in the evening and will conclude the celebrations.

Place des Montréalaises, located near the Champ-de-Mars metro station, is an ambitious project aimed at transforming Montreal's urban landscape.

This project, the result of an international landscape architecture competition, pays tribute to the city's influential women while creating a green and inclusive public space.

Here are the details of this innovative project and its impact on the Montreal community.

Located near the Champ-de-Mars metro station, Place des Montréalaises transforms the urban landscape by connecting downtown and Old Montreal.

It becomes a new gateway to Old Montreal.

A Tribute to the Women of Montreal

The Place des Montréalaises project was unveiled in 2018 following an international multidisciplinary landscape architecture competition.

The winning concept, developed by the Lemay team, Angela Silver, and SNC-Lavalin, features a planted slope that repairs the scar left by the construction of the Ville-Marie Expressway.

This project aims to transform the urban landscape by connecting downtown and Old Montreal, while paying tribute to the city's influential women.

The square will include three main components:

• A flower meadow integrated into the inclined plane of the lookout.

• A mirror-like work in tribute to 21 Montreal women, including the names of the 14 victims of the École Polytechnique femicide and those of seven pioneers of the city from different fields and eras.

• A staircase highlighting Marcelle Ferron's work located in the Champ-de-Mars metro station.

A Place of Passage and Gathering

In addition to being an important place of passage, Place des Montréalaises will offer citizens a space for relaxation, gathering, and contemplation in a green environment.

This project is part of a broader urban redevelopment initiative aimed at improving the urban landscape and welcoming more residents while creating a welcoming and scaled environment.

Project Benefits

The Place des Montréalaises project aims to:

• Connect the metro area and the administrative district with a universally accessible link

• Create a structural gateway to Old Montreal

• Provide a dedicated space for Montrealers with an area of over 2 hectares
