As soon as spring arrives, one would swear that the entire population invades the terraces of Greater Montreal.

They are an essential aspect of urban life, especially in Montreal.

But now it's SUMMER, and here is an update.

Terraces allow residents and visitors to enjoy meals or simply a good drink outdoors in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

Why are terraces so appealing in Montreal?

  1. An essential part of urban life: Terraces provide a space where people can relax, socialize, and enjoy meals outdoors. They are especially appreciated during the warmer months when everyone wants to make the most of the good weather.

  2. Montreal and its terraces: Montreal is famous for its many terraces—around 3,000 spread across all neighborhoods. Nearly every district is known for its historic charm and cobblestone streets, which add to the appeal of the terraces.

  3. High-quality culinary experiences: Montreal’s terraces are not just outdoor spaces to eat or drink; they also offer high-quality dining experiences. Visitors can enjoy a variety of dishes, from local cuisine to international specialties, all while soaking in the unique ambiance of each terrace.

  4. A historic and picturesque setting: Many of Montreal’s terraces are located among historic landmarks and cobblestone alleys, contributing to a visually and culturally enriching experience. For example, neighborhoods like Old Montreal offer a scenic backdrop that attracts both locals and tourists.

In short, Montreal’s terraces are much more than just places to eat outdoors. They reflect Canadian urban culture, offering moments of relaxation, conviviality, and culinary delight in often historic and charming settings.
