The City of Montréal and the borough of Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve have announced
a major $36 million investment to revitalize two key facilities: the Pierre-Lorange pool and
the Hochelaga library.
This project aims to enhance recreational offerings, improve universal accessibility, and
create an inclusive community hub in the heart of the neighborhood.
As part of its commitment to social and territorial equity, the City of Montréal, in collaboration with the borough of Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, has unveiled an ambitious redevelopment plan for the recreational infrastructure in Hochelaga Maisonneuve.
Valued at nearly $36 million, the project includes a complete overhaul of the Pierre-Lorange pool and an expansion of the Hochelaga library, which will be transformed into a multifunctional community center.
The Pierre-Lorange pool will undergo major renovations to improve accessibility, safety, and functionality. Planned upgrades include universal changing rooms and restrooms, a ramp for people with reduced mobility to access the pool, and a redesigned reception area to better guide visitors.
At the same time, the Hochelaga library will be expanded to include new community spaces that promote intergenerational gatherings, cultural activities, and local services. This new community center will become a vibrant hub for residents.
The project is largely funded by the City of Montréal, which is contributing nearly $25 million through the Montréal Aquatic Program and the participatory budget.
The borough will invest close to $11 million to support this transformative initiative.
Construction is scheduled to begin in spring 2027, with the goal of delivering modern, inclusive facilities tailored to the needs of a diverse population.
