The first phase of revitalization for George-Vernot Park, located in the Saint-Michel neighbourhood of Montreal, has officially begun.
Thanks to an investment of 5.8 million dollars, this ambitious project aims to transform the eastern part of the park into a versatile, green, and inclusive space that meets the needs of the local community.
The work will continue through the summer of 2026.
George-Vernot Park, a symbol of the Saint-Michel neighbourhood, is entering a new era.
With a budget of $5.8 million, the City of Montreal is initiating a major transformation of this green space, which has long been marked by the closure of its pool in 2015.
This revitalization project, developed in consultation with residents during a public consultation in 2022, promises to breathe new life into this gathering place.
Among the new features will be a renovated baseball field, a synthetic soccer field, and a green agora with a mini-stage to host performances and community events.
The landscaped terrain will allow spectators to sit comfortably on the grass, without bleachers, in a friendly and natural atmosphere.
The project also focuses on biodiversity with the planting of trees and the creation of a 1,000 m² microforest.
A picnic area, pétanque court, and bean bag toss games will round out the leisure offerings.
A community garden is also planned for gardening enthusiasts.
This redevelopment reflects a commitment to preserving urban greenery while meeting the social and cultural needs of the neighbourhood.
George-Vernot Park will thus become a true hub of life, sport, and culture for the citizens of Saint-Michel.
