The City of Longueuil has unveiled an ambitious real estate project in the metro area, combining a convention center, a hotel, and several hundred housing units.
This development aims to address a pressing need for event infrastructure.
Less than two months ago, Mayor Catherine Fournier shared details of a massive housing project with 5,000 units, which we covered in our publication:

Now, she’s back with an entirely new project.
The City recently announced a large-scale real estate initiative that could transform the metro area in the coming years.
At the heart of this initiative: the creation of Longueuil’s very first convention center, accompanied by a hotel and several hundred housing units.
The convention center, with a minimum area of 30,000 squares feet, could accommodate more than 1,125 people thanks to modular rooms.
It would fill a major gap, as the city currently lacks any venue that can host more than 250 people.
The land, owned by the city, could be sold or leased long-term through an emphyteutic lease.
Although the project is entirely private, the city may invest in certain supporting infrastructure.
However, it does not plan to contribute to operating costs, except through agreements for community organizations to use the rooms.
Construction could begin as early as 2027.
In the meantime, the city will launch a call for interest from real estate developers in July, with the goal of reaching a contractual agreement by 2026.
This project is part of a broader vision to revitalize the metro area, which is already buzzing with other major developments, including the construction of the tallest residential tower on the South Shore.
Together, these initiatives aim to make this neighborhood a vibrant, sustainable, and people-centered downtown.
